Superintendent
Dr. Mark C. DeMareo
Dr. Mark C. DeMareo of Middletown, NJ served as Assistant Superintendent of
Schools for the Jackson School District, Jackson, NJ from 2003 to 2008.
Prior to that, he served as Principal of Ramapo High School in Franklin
Lakes, Bergen County and was Principal of Raritan High School, Monmouth
County. He was appointed as a member of the Board of Trustees at Rider
University, Lawrenceville, NJ in September, 2006.
From 1998 to 2002 he served as Co-Chair of the Advisory Board at the
Principals’ Center, Harvard University Graduate School of Education. As a
1978 graduate of Westminster Choir College, Dr. DeMareo has served in
various leadership positions in the Alumni Association including service as
Association President. He is a member of the Headmaster’s Association, a
select group of 100 educators consisting of 75 American private school
headmasters and 25 public school principals.
Dr. DeMareo was a recipient of the Leonardo Da Vinci Institute Fellowship
at Rutgers University and was selected as one of ten recipients for a music
Fellowship to Northwestern University, Evanston, IL.

Mrs. Colleen Gravel
Colleen Gravel began her teaching career in the Plumsted
Township School District as a K-8 music teacher. When the
New Egypt Middle School opened its doors in 1995, she began
the first instrumental music program for the school
district, and in 2001, was selected as one of our Teachers
of the Year. Mrs. Gravel has been a member of Curriculum
Council, a teacher facilitator, and chaired the Professional
Development Committee. She earned her Bachelors degree from
the University of Delaware and her Masters in Curriculum and
Instruction from Drexel University, where she focused on
instructional technology.
Principal, New Egypt High School
Mr.
Thomas Farrell
In October 2008, Mr. Farrell was
named Principal of New Egypt High School and assumed his duties in
February, 2009. He also
served as the high school varsity football head coach from 2002 -2008. In
his spare time, Mr. Farrell serves as an adjunct professor of business for
Ocean County Community College. Prior to coming to the Plumsted Township
School District, Mr. Farrell was an Assistant Athletic Director, Business
Education Teacher, and coach at Monsignor Donovan High School in Toms
River, New Jersey. Mr. Farrell earned an M.B.A. from Monmouth
University and a bachelors degree from Syracuse University.
Assistant Principal, New Egypt High School
Mr.
Michael Mendes
Mr. Mendes has been teaching at New Egypt High School since 2002 as a
teacher of Business and Technology for grades 9 through 12. He has also
served as the Public Relations Coordinator for the Plumsted Township School
District as well as the Student Information Systems Coordinator. In addition
to his teaching responsibilities, Mr. Mendes was a varsity football coach,
varsity baseball coach, varsity softball coach and a middle school
basketball coach for the district.
Mr. Mendes received his Bachelor of Science degree in Business
Administration with a concentration in Marketing from Monmouth University in
West Long Branch, New Jersey. He then went on to pursue his Master of Arts
in Educational Leadership at Thomas Edison State College in Trenton, New
Jersey.
Principal, New Egypt Middle School
Mrs.
Andrea Caldes
Mrs. Caldes was appointed Principal of New Egypt Middle School in 2008
after completing one year in the Plumsted Township School District as the
Assistant Principal of New Egypt High School. Prior to coming to Plumsted,
Mrs. Caldes was Principal in the Union Beach Public School District and
Vice Principal in the Howell Township Public Schools. Mrs. Caldes began her
career in Brick Township as an elementary school teacher. She then left
Brick Township to teach and pursue professional opportunities in the Howell
Township Public Schools. Mrs. Caldes has her master’s degree in
administration and supervision from New Jersey City University and received
her bachelor’s degree in education and psychology from Georgian Court
University.

Mr. James
Osmond
Mr. Osmond came to Plumsted from Jackson
where he was a 6th grade Math and Science teacher. Before this, he also
taught in Brick Township and Linden. He has earned an associate’s degree
from Brookdale Community College, a bachelor’s degree from Flagler College
(FL), an M.S. degree from Neumann College (PA), and an M.Ed. in
Administration and Supervision from Saint Peter’s College (NJ). He also has
nearly ten years of coaching experience and has coached baseball at the
middle school, high school, and college level, most recently as the varsity
assistant coach at Jackson Memorial High School.
Principal, Dr. Gerald H. Woehr Elementary
School
Mr. Robert Burkhardt
Mr. Burkhardt began his career as a High School Band Director, serving in
that capacity first in the Newark Public Schools for two years, and then the
Irvington Public Schools for 17 years. He then became the Supervisor of
Music and Public Information Officer for the Irvington Public Schools for 4
years until he became an elementary school Principal. After serving as an
elementary Principal for 6 years in Irvington, he accepted the position as
Principal of a grade 3 – 8 school in Mountainside. After three years in that
position, he worked as Supervisor of Special Programs for the Plainfield
Public Schools for one year. He is looking forward to working with the
students, parents, and staff in the Plumsted Township School District. Mr.
Burkhardt received his Masters degree in Administration and Supervision from
Rutgers University and his Bachelors degree in Music Education from
Montclair State University.
Principal, New Egypt Primary School
Ms.
Toni Ferry
After serving three years as the Assistant Principal of New Egypt High
School, Ms. Ferry was named Principal of New Egypt Primary School in 2006. Ms. Ferry did her undergraduate work at
Villanova University, receiving her B.A. in English. She continued her
education, earning a Masters Degree in Teaching with a concentration in
Curriculum and Instruction, from Boston College; and finished her second
Masters in Administration from Monmouth University. Prior to becoming the
Assistant Principal at New Egypt High School in 2003, Ms. Ferry taught
English for six years at both the middle school and high school levels. The
last four years were at Old Bridge High School.
Supervisor of Guidance
Mrs. Diane McMahon
Appointed to the Plumsted Township
School District on August 26, 2009 as K-12 Supervisor of
Guidance, Diane McMahon has been a school counselor in the
high school setting since January of 2002 in the Montgomery
Township School District. From 1992 -2001 she was a nursing
instructor at Hudson County Schools of Technology in Jersey
City and staff hospital nurse in the Medical Center at
Princeton prior to changing to school counseling. She holds
two professional licenses in the State of NJ as a Licensed
Professional Counselor and a Registered Professional Nurse
as well as two national certifications NCC National
Certified Counselor and the NCSC National Certified School
Counselor. Mrs. McMahon holds NJ Teacher Certifications for
Student Personnel Services, Director of Student Personnel
Services, Teacher of Practical Nursing and Teacher of
Psychology. She earned two graduate degrees from the College
of New Jersey, a Master of Arts in Counseling and Personnel
Services with a specialization School Counseling and an
Educational Specialist in Marriage and Family Therapy.
Supervisor of Special Education
Mrs.
Jodie Greene
Jodie Greene spent twenty years as a Special Education teacher in New Egypt
Elementary School after receiving her Bachelor’s Degree from The College of
NJ. She also earned her Master’s Degree in Special Education and an
additional certificate as a Learning Disabilities-Teacher Consultant
(LDT-C) from the same college. For the following ten years she worked in
the district as an LDT-C. In 2004 she served as the Coordinator of the
Child Study Team. The past three years she has been the Coordinator of
Special Education for the district. She is honored to be a Professionally
Recognized Special Educator by the Council for Exceptional Children and a
trained Orton-Gillingham instructor.
Supervisor of Athletics and
Co-Curricular Activities
Mr.
Richard Carroll
Mr. Carroll spent
three years in the elementary school as the school counselor and
five years as Supervisor of Guidance at the high school. Mr. Carroll now
works as Supervisor of Athletics. He has been the varsity Girls Basketball Coach at the high school and
serves as the Varsity Baseball Coach since the school was started. Mr.
Carroll earned a bachelors degree from Seton Hall University and his
master's degree from Upsala College.
