Youth Services of Toms River
Ocean County residents are offered FREE, short-term guidance and referral services. Guidance sessions include subject areas such as peer pressure, anger management, and bullying. To be eligible for the Guidance Program, children must be between the ages of 6 and 17 years old and reside in ocean County. School counselor's refer most children, but anyone can call for information or to make an appointment. This service is located at 1505 North Bay Avenue in Toms River. Ocean County Family Support Organization (FSO)
The FSO is a nonprofit organization made up of parents and community members whose mission is to ensure that every Ocean County family who have children with special emotional and behavioral needs is given community based resources and support in a family friendly, child centered, culturally competent manner. Their website lists parent groups, support groups, and self-help groups in your area. -
Children's Mobile Response and Stabilization Unit
The Children's Mobile Response and Stabilization System is operated by Preferred Children's Services. This system provides time-limited, crisis intervention and stabilization services to children and youth exhibiting emotional or behavioral disturbances that threaten to disrupt their current living arrangements. The mobile response team, once the crisis is deemed eligible, will arrive at the site of the crisis within ONE HOUR to diffuse the emergency and provide crisis intervention services for up to 72 hours. If needed, on-going stabilization services, such as in-home family therapy services and behavioral assistance, can be provided for up to eight weeks. Long term needs will be met through referrals to needed services within the community. This website provides doctor-approved health information about children from before birth through adolescence. KidsHealth has separate areas for kids, teens, and parents; you can find the kid-friendly version of the site under the "Website for Kids" section of my Links page. Physicians and other health experts review all information before it is published on KidsHealth. The stage-by-stage tips include a section specifically focused toward helping those parents whose children are starting a new school.
