• 2nd grade units

This year, what students are learning is based on the model curriculum http://www.state.nj.us/education/modelcurriculum/wl/ . For second and third grades, the focus is on the school with the unit called School Days. As you can see from the New Jersey Model Curriculum, there are two parts. Unit 2A is the basis for this year in 2nd grade. The 3rd graders will use Unit 2B.

Here's a new PowerPoint game based on Who Wants to be a Millionaire. Please let me know if you find this helpful in reviewing your vocabulary words.

Who wants to be a Millionaire? classroom vocabulary edition

Here's the latest game to help review the vocabulary. It's made with the newest version of PowerPoint. Hopefully it will work on older versions of the software. You'll need to open the file and then using your software choose to start the slide show from the beginning. Play this popular game based on tic-tac-toe with a friend or family member. Each person chooses to be either X or O. Each "celebrity" will show you a picture of a vocabulary word from our list once you click on the square you choose. If you guess the name of the classroom object correctly you will need to type your letter in the black space on the "celebrity's" desk once you click the link to bring you back to the home screen with all the people shown. Enjoy!

Second and third  graders will be having a test in January on the vocabulary for the prepositions that we have been studying. Please see the class calendar page for the date of your child's test. Below is a copy of the study guide. I always recommend to students that they scan in a copy of the study guide so they have a copy available in case they misplace it. It's a good habit to start, students, so please remember that strategy in helping to keep you organized and as a way to avoid last minute panic if you ever realize suddenly that you can't locate an important paper for school.

     Here's a sample test item:

    up arrow

    O a la izquierda

    School places and verbs

This marking period students learn about the common places in school, such as the cafeteria, the gym, the library, and the office as well as verbs commonly associated with these places such as eat, draw, listen, and walk. Use these resources to help become more familiar with the words we're using this marking period.

Students are encouraged to keep their study guides in a safe place so they can study a little bit each night. I also recommend that students scan their study guide so they have a back up copy in case they misplace it. If you need an additional copy and haven't made a scanned copy, you can print out extra copies here:
