Our music department also includes Mr. Megules at the middle school and Mr. Grotto at the high school.
The mission of the music program at the elementary level is to provide all students with an opportunity to maximize their individual potential in musical skills and knowledge through a wide variety of kinesthetic, aural, and visual mediums within the music discipline while continually demonstrating exemplary character qualities through character education.
The music classes include grades K-5 with students involved in musical experiences that focus on kinesthetic, aural, and visual variety and diversity. Each lesson is aligned with the New Jersey State Core Curriculum Standards and 21st Century Standards yielding unending opportunity to reach all learning styles and gain success in all fields of education and beyond the realm of music. Students focus mainly on character building through aesthetic musical experiences, theory based music creation, music technology, and other similar cross curricular activities. Curriculum and Syllabus
The current curriculum for the music program is focused around the McGraw-Hill series, Share the Music. Supplemental material infused into this core curriculum include keyboarding using the Faber and Faber piano series, music history and culture using the Music Alive magazine series, and various websites and modern music compilation books to provide a broad variety of musical extension and connection to the student's personal life outside the school. Elementary, Middle, and High School Chorus
The chorus class is made for the distinguished students seeking additional musical experiences in a large vocal performing ensemble.
Chorus is treated as a professional performance ensemble of high quality and caliber beyond the general music classroom. Repertoire chosen for this ensemble is higher than the average music demands of the regular music classroom and challenge each and every student’s vocal abilities. This year the elementary chorus has 94 members, the middle school chorus has 22 members, and the high school chorus has 10 members. We are looking forward to the upcoming regularly scheduled seasonal concerts. There are a few other volunteer concerts we may be involved with in the community this year as well including festivals and auditioned honors programs. Here’s to another successful year of beautiful singing together and making musical memories to last a lifetime. Check back frequently for any updates regarding music, recordings, and general information for chorus members.
